Storyboarding
My storyboarding process uses Adobe Photoshop, Bridge, and Premiere Pro in sequence to accomplish a efficiently made and highly organized sequence of frames.
“Twin Trials”
Something that I return to time and time again in my art is the theme of magical forests and the mythology behind them. Here, I wanted to develop an idea of how characters could interact with the forest and the possible magical interactions. Ultimately, this idea was a base for a much larger development into this magical forest theme.
I drew each frame in Adobe Photoshop, organized and renamed each file in Bridge, and edited the pacing, music, and sound effects in Premiere Pro.
“The Plight of Medusa”
This storyboard manifested when I first learned about the real myth of Medusa, one that surrounds themes of sexual assault and wrongful blame. In Greek mythology, Medusa is often painted as the villain, while the gods, in this case Poseidon, are viewed in a much kinder light. I couldn’t stop thinking about how much that is also true in real life, and how women are inherently less believed than men because we are commonly regarded lower than men.
I developed that idea into a PSA about sexual assault cases, in which women are typically never given a platform or voice for the pain they’ve endured.
“Ira the Balloon”
Ira the Balloon is based off a true story that occurred during my Freshman year of college. We had a happy birthday balloon in our dorm room for months, slowly losing helium until it floated only an inch above the floor. Then, one day it disappeared. “Did the balloon open the door?” we wondered. After assuming it must’ve just snuck out, we found it again, weeks later, in the neighboring Residence Hall, much worse for wear.
I thought this cute story could be developed and dramatized into a light hearted short film about Ira the Balloon’s life when he was missing. This is the product!
